What is with shoe sizes. My feet have been the same size for a number of years now, however when I recently went to purchase new shoes I found that I was trying on shoes that were a size smaller then what I was currently wearing. According to one shoe salesman what has happened is that people on average have bigger feet now then in the past. As a result shoe companies have made their shoes bigger.
What I don't understand is that if people have bigger feet, why not simply make larger sizes? Why are they making the current sizes larger? In case that is not clear, it seems that what used to be a size 11 is now either a size 10 or 10.5. Changing current sizes does not make sense to me as many people will stick with a certain brand of shoe because they know how it fits and they know the size they need. If people are forced to spend time trying on new shoes then they might try a different brand.
The same thing happened to my girlfriend recently when she was trying to purchase shoes at Naturalizer. It seems that Naturalizer was recently bought out by a US firm and the US firm messed with all the sizes. That does not make sense to me because as far as I know in Canada we use the same shoe sizing system as the US.
Something funny is happening and I don't like it. |
